The Mechanical Design Engineer must have expert-level knowledge of material properties and ability to use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) systems in completing mechanical models and designs (e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA, ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc.).
Must have thorough knowledge and practical experience in manufacturing processes and techniques, and thorough understanding of Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, Design for Additive manufacturing
principles. (e.g. CNC machining, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, sheet metal forming, welding, and material finishing, etc.)
Must be very knowledgeable in testing methods used to evaluate stress analysis, identify design flaws and identify weld and structural strengths.
Must be a positive leader able to effectively contribute to the exceptional performance of the team, help the team achieve the team objectives, and provide a stellar customer experience.
Safety and Operations
Incumbent will ensure workplace safety at all times, diligently complying with international industry safety standards for workshops, KAUST HSE policies, and other relevant regulations, procedures and guidelines. will report and manage machine issues or non-compliances that compromise work quality a shop safety.
Teamwork and client-centricity
The position holder will demonstrate due diligence in creating an atmosphere of effective teamwork and team camaraderie. will work closely with students, researchers, PIs, staff and colleagues using effective communication techniques when planning projects and preparing jobs.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanic Engineering or equivalent.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in designing using DFM (Design for Manufacturing) best practices, running engineering simulations, and developing complex designs .
A minimum of 3 years training and mentoring students or subordinates in design and engineering techniques using SolidWorks.
Understanding of Materials selection and materials properties for the purpose of design and fabrication.
Extensive 3D Solid Modeling experience using Solidworks, Catia, Creo, a other C software.
Experience working at a commercial product development firm.
Experience as an instructor for CAD software or other teaching experience.
Experience in mold design and parts design for molding processes (e.g. injection molding, vacuum forming, etc.).
